I just heard a few songs! WOW it's amazing. It's sounds so old fashioned exactly like the Four Seasons and yet so polished and clear. John Lloyd Young is amazing! OMG that falsetto!

I adore the recording. I've got a bunch of the tracks downloaded but have yet to actually go out and buy the cd. (I'm planning to this week as I finally got my long overdue paycheck )

I agree. It does sound so much like the original group. Its such a fun show too. The next person to call it a jukebox musical is being slapped because it would be pretty hard to tell the story of the Four Seasons and NOT use their music. Therefore I don't really consider it a jukebox show.

Please, try not to take it personally, and be advised that I loved the show, but that being said, Jersey Boys is a Jukebox musical, and though some people may take that to mean that as a derogatory definision, I mean it by it's action meaning: A show that takes a catalog of songs by an artist to use as the main body of songs instead of original songs written for the show. In a similar catagory is the show Crazy for You, which compiles songs that were written by the Gershwin brothers and that were hits of their era, played on the radio. Even the show Side by Side Sondheim or other musical reviews could fall in this category, though they are more commonly considered "review shows." In contrast, however, the thing that does make Jersey Boys so much more pallatable, is the fact that most of the songs are placed in thier appropriate chronological places and are used to invite the audience into a time machine taking them back to that time while simultaneously pushing the plot forward like a song in a musical should, opposed to shows like Mamma Mia and All Shook Up, where the songs are places creatively around a new ficticuous plot.
Sorry for the little history lesson, but I just wanted to applaud publicly the 1st Jukebox Musical that I've seen that actually is a brilliant and complete show. Good times!

While in the technical sense of the definition it could be considered jukebox (and I know all that you've mentioned in your little "history lesson") because of the way it is set up and because of the story its telling and the book, its so much more then something like Mamma Mia which is trying to pass off an original story using Abba's music. I don't think it would be possible to do a show telling the Four Season's story and not using their music/inserting original songs. It wouldn't work.

Side By Side Sondheim is a review show. Crazy For You falls somewhere in between. Because it does take songs from earlier musicals, yet actually tells a story, different from many reviews.

I love the soundtrack, I thought I would never pay $18:88 for a cd but I did for this one.

Yes. A recording of a Broadway/Wess End/any type of stage musical is referred to as a Cast Recording. A soundtrack is a compilation of songs onto an album for a film/television show.
