Why are Nessa Rose's shoes silver? Aren't her shoes famously red in the wizard of oz? Why are they silver in Wicked?

The shoes are silver not only in the original Wicked book, but also in the original Wonderful Wizard of Oz book. The only reason why they are red in the Judy Garland film is because red is easier to look at in Technicolor than silver.
