Post Has anyone noticed . . . .
that the first word of the show is "good" and the last word of the show is "wicked"? Do you think that those opposites being bookends was intentional, or just a coincidence?

I'm thinking it's a coincidence. Interesting observation though!

I would be very surprised if this was a coincidence. Authors pay particular attention to the first and last sentences/words.

Very cool and awesome job at spotting it :) But i agree with poster above me, it wouldn't have been coincidence, the writers would have consciously done this.

Yes, I have, and I love it. Of particular interest to me is the fact that, had Elphaba gotten to finish her last line (I have been changed...) the last word would have been "good" as well, but she was cut off. Had she gotten her way, the first and last part of her story would have been "good," but of course she's the Wicked Witch of the West and will never have her story told in the way she would like it told.
It's so sad, but it's genius.
(Totes not a coincidence you guys)

I love this.

Wicked may not be the best piece of theatre ever written, but I really don't think it is as lacking in substance as many people here believe.

It is NOT a coincidence but part of the show's design to contrast GOOD and WICKED. The show is about perceptions and honesty. What is perceived as GOOD may in fact be WICKED and vice versa. Brilliant. Throughout the story the characters touch on the GOOD and WICKED aspects of themselves as they discover who they really are and how they fit in with the world. If you think the book is weak then you don't get it.

That's a good matter to think over! I didn't notice before, but now, after you have mentioned it, I think it has some intention in it!

I love little hidden gems like that, I hope it was intentional but it's equally wonderful if it's a coincidence. I'll keep an eye out for more things like that in future! :D
