Post Pippin as animated movie?
Hello, all...

Something interesting...I've read someplace that there were once plans in the works to make an animated movie out of Pippin.

Do you think that would have worked? If this was in the seventies (which I'm presuming it was--sometime after the 1972 premiere), I imagine the look and style of it wouldn't have been detailed and lush in the manner of Disney animation, but a looser, freer style reminiscient of, say, Yellow Submarine or The Point. (With a touch of the cover illustration for the published script.)

Does anyone know anything further about this--any storyboards or anything floating around?

It's an interesting idea, especially given the flexible structure of the show, but I don't know ultimately if Pippin would work as a movie period, let alone animated. It's one of those few shows that really defies the camera, incredibly theatrical in structure and content.
