A local community theatre group did ACL not too long ago and used not only high schoolers, but junior high and grade schoolers. I didn't get to go see it (I was in a different show that same weekend), but based on the reactions of some non-theatre friends who did go see it, they didn't edit it.

I probably wouldn't want to see a bunch of highschoolers doing a Chorus Line....Although it is one of my favorite musicals. But that's just me.

Please tell me Cassie was played by a 5 year old! That is gold right there.

LOL. Must have been fun to have the parents watch their kids jam along backstage to "Dance Ten, Looks Three" at rehearsal.

At my high school's production (I wasn't at the school yet...haha) They changed the lyrics in Dance 10 looks 3 to "This and That". Also he had "mono" rather than the other...disease. haha.

I think it is pretentious to not do a show because of "crude" language. Come on? What harm can some lousy words like "Tits" and "Ass" cause? Or shit? It does not harm a soul, so let the script be, and if a High School has the talent and wants to do the show, let them!

Another common change is in nothing, and goes like this "Except the feeling that this really was absurd".

Post Re: Appropriate for High School?
My high school drama director noticed that the class ahead of me had more talented dancers than we typically have, and petitioned the school board to let us do it. Even though she offered to let them approve the choreography and any changes to the lyrics/book, they still felt the content was too mature for the community to handle. In that case, it wasn't a question of whether the performers were old enough, it was just that the town was too conservative. I still wish I'd had a chance to be in that show, though...

[quote="belleaurora"]I think Chorus Line can be a great show for high schoolers. I did it unedited at a summer program, where the majority of us were high schoolers (and a couple college students), and it was amazing. The story is about growing up and doing what you really love in life, even if you can't be the star. How does that not sound like a good show for teens?

totally agree that Chorus Line can be a great show for high schoolers

Tams Whitmark has a version for high schools to do so you don't have to butcher the original version. Do that version instead and leave the original alone. Stop political correcting musicals!
