Yeah, I was gonna say...what's "Surprise Surprise"? I gotta see this movie...
Oh, so hard to pick just five! They're all great. But hmm...I'll go with...
1. "The Music and the Mirror" - the instrumental is just incredible!
2. "At the Ballet" - (tie) - partial to this since I was Sheila
3. "Nothing" (tie)
4. "What I Did For Love"
5. tie - the scat section of "Montage - Part 4" (right before "Gimme the Ball")
tie - "Introduction to Sing!" - this is the underscoring that plays while Kristine and Al have their dialogue - and if you've ever played in an ACL pit, you know that it's the funniest thing ever!
OK, enough of my ramblng.

My Top 5 "A Chorus Line" Songs.
My 5 top favorite songs from "A Chorus Line" are:
1.) "The Music and the Mirror" and "I Hope I Get It" (Entire opening sequence) tie at number one. I simply cannot choose which of these two songs are my favorite. It's funny cause these are not really typical songs. They are more instrumental than anything, but that's why I love them. They are two of the most thrilling and showstopping moments in musical theatre history, in my humble opinion.
2.) "At the Ballet" is just one of those songs that completely encaptures the audiences focus and attention, with it's bittersweet and expressive underlying score.
3.) "And" is an honest and true expression of the nervous mind-racing we all experience when we are waiting our turn to be put on the "spot". Though not a popular favorite and not even on the cast album, it's charm and musical distinct expressivness has won me over.
4.) "Goodbye Twelve, Hello Thirteen" is in itself an art. It's incredible and mindblowing approach in presentation is to my standards, pure perfection. It's like pressing the fast forward button on your VCR done on stage, except you don't get a whole mess of clutter nor get overwhelmed by this musical montage. It has virtually achieved to fast forward a long and deeply emotional series of monolougues without compromising it's core emotional individuality.
5.) "Nothing" is effectively integrated into "Goodbye Twelve, Hello Thirteen". This song's sucess relies heavily on the very actress whom performs it, whether on stage, or on a cast recording. And we all know that Broadway original, Priscilla Lopez' rendition reigns supreme. I have never been "surprised" by the outcome of a song's message as with this one. It starts off as a fun and deeply engaging story, and ends with a deeply personal and emotional "revelation". On top of all that, it's one of the most fun songs to sing along to that I've ever heard.
I know this post originally only asked for 5 favorites, but I would like to note that it was very difficult for me to not include "What I Did For Love" in this list, since it really is one of the most beautiful and melodic songs in the show. It clearly cements each diverse character into one, one who's passion has overtaken their total being in the face of inevitable rejection, hardships, and struggle in the world of dance.
My two Cents,
-Enrique =)
