Post Does Mary generally= Julie?
Dear "Mary Poppins" Fans,

When the show is performed live, does the leading actress usually try to mimic Julie Andrews as much as is possible, or does she generally do a drastically different take on the famous nanny?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

I want someone who's the deviant version of Fred MacMurray, David Tomlinson & William Schallert....but who has the looks of guys like Dan Haggerty, Kris Kristofferson & Tom Selleck.

She approaches the part as she would any other.

Steffanie Leigh played Mary when I saw the show, and I felt that she improved upon Julie's portrayal for one simple reason: Mary is supposed to be equal parts firm and kind. With Julie, it's FIRM FIRM FIRM FIRM FIRM. Steffanie found a wonderful balance where she was firm when needed, but there was no doubt she loved what she was doing.
