Post "Temper, Temper" cut from show due to scariness
The song has now been replaced with a less intimidating number called "Playing the Game" in Chicago, and it will soon be fitted into the other productions as well.

Thoughts?

This depresses me. Temper Temper is really neatly arranged and was Disney's way of trying to be Sondheim-like. Annnd it sounded really cool... :(

DAMMIT!!

UGGGHHH "Temper, Temper" was the best song added into the score!!!

:( I lost my faith in Disney a little bit because of this.

If this is the case, why didn't they come up with a solution a LONG time ago? Dumb.

The number was already toned down from London, where it ended with the children's execution.

Apparently, the music was too scary, the clowns were too scary, and now Mary Poppins remains with the kids, so they are not isolated.

I find it rather stupid. I mean, seriously- the real Mary Poppins book is COMPLETELY different than the movie. The movie was all more lively than the book ever. And I think Mary Poppins the musical, if i remember right, is based on the book, not the movie.

Well...I'm still pretty pissed about this.

It seems Disney On Broadway hasn't been making the best decisions recently...Tarzan was a commercial and critical failure, High School Musical is just bad in general, and The Little Mermaid just doesn't seem to capture the magic of the film like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King did (that's not to say Mermaid's bad, of course). The best thing they've done recently is plan on Der Glockner's Broadway run!

Oh FFS. How ridiculous. Kids LIKE being scared, so long as they have someone next to them to hold their hand - I remember going through the Haunted House at Disneyland at the age of about 8 and being terrified but loving it! I know that Poppins had a warning on it in London that it wasn't suitable for kids under 10 and that kids under 7 wouldn't be admitted - does the Broadway version have that or have they taken it off and now cut the song?

Some of the stuff they added for the stage was taken from the book, but it's still based on the movie. The book didn't have a plot. The filmmakers had to add that, and the musical follows that plot.

errk. The London production of Mary Poppins was fantastic and really stayed true to the book, it was eerie and scary & had depressing undertones. It is really upsetting that the American run has changed the show to a happy-go-lucky story where Mry is nice and forgiving.
