Do you like the musical "Mary Poppins"?

Many people on the forum seem to like it, but this board is completely dead.

I like it. It's a "spectacular" musical. It had lots to look at and sfx to keep my engaged.

Not really. I wasn't a huge fan of the movie with Julie Andrews, not huge into spectale, and never fell in love with the score or the story.

I don't know. It just doesn't do it for me. And less then Lion King did it for me, which is saying something.

It wasn't ever a favorite as a child.
I've never seen the musical, so I can't really judge. But from what I've seen it looks kind of good. It still urks me that it's Disney though. I'd feel like I was giving into The Man if I saw it live.

I enjoyed it a great deal more than I expected to, which is just as well since I was working there for 3 months! It was a lot more solid and plot based than I thought it would be, not really a spectacle except for Mary's flying. All the magic in Practically Perfect is quite obvious, once you've watched it from a few angles...

But most of us haven't. So it keeps us guessing, there's obviously a few possible ways it's done.

The sets are amazing as well. So colourful and huge.

No, I hated it. Loop holes in the plot, scenes that have absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the story - only there to milk an extra applauds from the audience, horrible versions of the familiar songs from the film (the gorgeous "Feed the birds" was completely destroyed!!!!), one dimentional characters that leave you completely cold, forgettable new music (only "Being Mrs Banks" was worth listening)...

The sets and costumes are great though.

The movie version is one of my top ten musicals.

I hate the stage version.

as far as Disney musicals go, I agree, but I don't think it would even occur to me to be in the top 25....

I mean, it's a good one (excluding the stage play.... omg, if it's not Dick van Dyke, it's not right, same for Julie Andrews... in this case, at least) but it's not the best ever by any means.

I loved the movie since I was a child.
I'll definitely go to see Mary Poppins on stage, if there ever be a production in Russia.

It was AMAZING! i don't know why you guys didn't like it. It was different from the movie, yes, but the people who owned the rights to the book wanted the stage musical closer to the books. I personally liked the changes, i read the books and it made more sense. Plus Ashley Brown was AMAZING as Mary Poppins, her accent wasn't perfect at times but other than that perfect!

I saw it on Broadway in the summer and I thought it was great! The set was sweet. Though, I was expecting a little bit more from a Cameron production
