It's closed on West End now I think? It is indeed great. I would say the film and the musical are quite different. And I much prefer the film version, because nothing beats Mrs. Andrews as Mary.
It first opened in Bristol and on the opening night, my Grandad had arranged for me and my family to go up there and stay in a hotel overnight, there was about 10 of us in total, and this was a big occasion - been planned for a while! It was so exciting sitting there, knowing we were some of the people who were getting to see this show before it even hits west end. It starts its going well, we hear the prologue, curtain comes down, bert comes on stage to begin the next song and boom. The show had ended. We were told the screen wasn't working and the show couldn't go on. It was just our luck! 30 minutes into the show and we couldnt see it. And acutally staying in a hotel, booking train tickets from brighton to bristol, it must of cost a lot, and for nothing. All us children were crying! We were so excited! The production said we could get free tickets for Fridays show - but it was a week away. Luckily my Grandad - who always gets his way, got us a full refund and free tickets to the opening night in London. So we saw it in London, and it is a good piece of work, but, you know, not a 'classic'. I doubt anyone would put it in their top 10 musicals. But its definetley worth going if its opening in Broadway soon!
