Post Drowsy Chaperone Movie
I saw that The Drowsy Chaperone might be made into a movie with Geoffrey Rush as Man in Chair. Apparently he played the part in Australia.

Really great show but I don't know how well it will translate to the big screen. It's difficult to do because it's sort of "cheesy". Tough to play with those 1920's stereotypes so outrageously and keep it entertaining. I'm so glad I saw the show (twice) right after it went off Broadway and hit the road. Had great actors and kept the sets. I'm crossing my fingers that the film will be a hit. The show is deserving of a good treatment on film. I wish they had filmed a stage performance for Great Performances. ***are they ever going to release The Light in the Piazza?*** [-o<

Yep, that was with the Melbourne Theatre Company. A couple of friends saw him in it and really enjoyed it (and him). I was there, but opted out since I don't care for the show very much.

What a great idea! I can see this working so well on film, yet you do have a good point with the whole "cheesiness." I don't know about Geoffery Rush though. I mean, from what I've seen everyone loved him, but I just don't see him as the Man in Chair. What about Jesse Tyler Ferguson? He's hilarious and is on a huge TV show now, so he's not totally an unknown to the rest of the film-viewing world. And he's got the theatre cred--a plus! Though, he's not very old, he's still got that weird ginger/albino look, so...?

No No No - really Geoffrey Rush IS the Man in the Chair!!! He was phenomenal. He was like the guy from the orignal cast plus more!! He was just amazing and no one else could possibly do the role in the film - I am onlyu a little biased :P
