Definetly Gymnsaia in the show my town's highschool did. The funny part was that at the time she was dating the guy who played Hysterium (sp??). All of them were really good actresses, but I remember Gymnasia's part the most.

Tintinabula, as you can guess from her name, usually has a costume with a lot of bells on it.

Panacea is described as mysterious, and her music can be quite sensual.

Vibrata is sometimes outfitted in a tiger- or leopard-skin print outfit, and her dancing is very athletic.

These three wind up with the Proteans/Soldiers.

The Gemini are twins. Their music is very graceful, and they usually move in mirror-image when they dance. They wind up with Miles Gloriosus.

Gymnasia is very tall and statuesque. She has the only line of any of the Courtesans ('Don't you lower your voice to me!', said to one of the Eunuchs), and winds up with Pseudolus.

I hope this helps.

Gymnasia, because she can actually be a very funny part to play if you do it right. And she's the only courtesan that says something. (Aaaand I'm playing her now, but that's beside the point.)

Vibrata comes in a close second, because she has a whip ^^

I could say the twins and be biased because I played one of them and it was such a good time, but I'm kind of partial to Gymnasia. :P

In our production the courtesans were all designed to look like different aspects of men's fantasies...
For example--
Titinabula, was dressed as an egyptian belly dancer.
Panacea, was a nurse
The Geminae, looked like fembots
Vibrata, was dressed in a bikini with leapord print and had a whip...kind of a dominatrix type thing....
And Gymanasia, was a big woman...A REALLY big woman--which added to a lot of the humor of lines like "It's a fair price by the pound...", "Theres so much of you there"

--Panacea, hands down was my favorite one...Vibrata a close second...

I played Gymnasia, twice...a giant stage on which a thousand dramas can be told...and I love her role. (I'm 5'10" and built largely...) She's not on the poll though.

I hate to kind of agree in a bit of a bitchy way, but the courtesans are basically just chorus, they're not overly important, and it seems people here only make a deal of it because they're usually young female am dram types who think these smaller roles they have are important.

I hope that didnt sound too mean, hell Im only in chorus for Forum myself next month.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. No..the courtesans do not have any lines save for one small line said by Gymnasia, and they don't have an enourmous amount of stage time. However, done well, the courtesans are an excellent part of the show. Each one has their own character and personality. Plus...chorus roles are just as important as leads in any production.

there is no chorus in Forum. the Courtesans and the 3 Proteans are not chorus roles. Hell Jon Pertwee was a protean in the film!!

I think ours has gone a little astray then! It opens on monday.

Our show says there are only 5 proteans (for their opening number) but there are many more cast members who arent proteans or courtesans, but who end up as merchants, the wine merchant/bird cellar, the soothsayer (is the soothsayer a written role? Our version has her repeatedly turning up "woe woe and thrice woe!" with warnings etc) , Im not listed as a protean, but Im a citizen, soldier and eunuch, there are also women who are statues and mourners but who arent courtesans etc.

When I saw the shw in Startford, Pseudolous disguised himself as the soothsayer, and there was no need for any merchants or anything, the Proteans covered all those roles (sorry to be necromancer!)
