I've done this on a few boards and haven't kept track of where, so I apologize if I've already posted this here.
Appearance: About 5'5. Age 16, but could look as young as 13 and as old as...I don't really know, it depends on how young the rest of the cast looks and whether or not I wear my glasses. Brown hair, though it looks redder now that I dyed it.
Voice: Is kind of a mystery. I used to be a first soprano, really operatic, but now my voice is getting better lower. I sing Alto 1 in choir, but I'm technically a second soprano. I can comfortably go from a low F (below middle C) to a high D (2 octaves above middle C). My belting is somwhat existant. I have sort of a mixed voice around the B flat-E flat range (above middle C), and I think once I work on it more, I'll have a decent belt there.
Acting: For a while, I was typecast in the mother/wife roles, and I sang depressing ballads. I think I was given those roles because I was one of the oldest in the cast, plus my voice sounded more mature than I looked. Recently, though, I've been allowed to branch out. I have good comedic timing (or people say I do, anyway) and directors who have worked with me told me that I'd do well in either the quirky, slightly geeky characters (like Penny in Hairspray) or the romantic ingenue characters. I'd personally love to play a comedic character that also has her serious moments (like Elle in Legally Blonde).
Dance: Ha. Haha. Dance and I don't exactly coexist. But I do love dance, and I can get choreography down if I really work on it. I'm pretty good at tap, I took that for two years. I took jazz for a while. For some reason, I fail in dance classes, but when I'm given choreography for a show, I can learn it just fine. If it helps any, I know all the choreography from Hairspray and Legally Blonde from watching them on youtube too many times...
Previous Roles:
Currently: Jennifer in Glass Slippers at the Wishin' Well Trailer Court. It's the world premeire of an original musical, based on Cinderella, but set in a trailer park in Georgia in the early 80's. Jennifer is the Cinderella character in this show.
Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical
Mama Euralie in Once on This Island
Vi Moore in Footloose
Mother Abbyss in Sound of Music
Mrs. Gloop in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I have a really stupid question that I would love for you guys to answer. Here goes--
As I am now, could I pass for Prudy Pingleton from Hairspray?
Gender: Female
Age: 18 (and thus, the reason why I feel I cannot-- yet)
Appearance:
Very slender, angular, projected "snob nose." Standing 5'9" without heels. Auburnish hair that I have dyed every natural color there is. People assume me to be older than I am. I am seated at bars in restaurants by waiters who assume me to be 21 or over.
Acting:
Varied, you will see below.
Voice:
Mezzo-Soprano and Alto, but in a very unique mixture. Does anyone know of the late Nancy Kulp, who was a fantastic character actress? My singing voice is like her speaking voice was.
Dance:
Experience in ball room, ballet, tap, and cheerleading. I can dance to pretty much anything you put on.
Previous Roles, From Age 3 - Present:
City Mouse - City Mouse, Country Mouse
Brown Bat, a Bad Animal - The Trial of Goldilocks
Lucy Pevensie - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Betty Parris - The Crucible
Wanda Winters - Murder at the Banquet
Pepper - Annie *Of more note than the others, because I played Pepper in three different productions until I grew too tall for the role*
Queen Uberta - The Swan Princess *Yes, I know she is an older woman, but this was in a high school production. Still, I was a freshman who got one of the oldest roles.*
Helena - A Midsummer Night's Dream
Clytemnestra - The Orestia
Miss Pross - A Tale of Two Cities
Sister Berthe - The Sound of Music
Babbette - Beauty & the Beast *This came as a complete shock to me!*
Jane Hathaway - The Beverly Hillbillies
Aunt Bella - Lost in Yonkers
Noble Woman - Cinderella
In every case where I did play an older woman, it was with a fairly young cast.
Pictures:
These are both about a year old. Personally, I think I was born to play Prudy Pingleton, but I also think I'm still too young for the time being.
Opinions? |

You really do look too young to play Prudy.
But I guess it depends on the productuion. (Broadway, professional, community, school, etc.) _________________

That's what I had guessed. I'm out of school now, save college which I don't think will be doing Hairspray any time soon, and the production I'm thinking of-- I'm too darn young for now.
Just wondering, how many more years would you give me? Stage makeup can do things to you. |

I think you look like a Cosette but you could probably pass for Eponine too.

---Age: 18 years old, but can easily mistaken for a 15-16 year old. My facial feaures mainly look around these ages. My height is 5 ft. 7 in.
I'm caucasian with brown hair and hazel eyes. Some people mistake me to be taller than I am because of my legs. (laughs at foolish misconceptions. haha.)
---Voice:I can hit the E below middle c and the second E above middle C. I'm pretty sure I'm an alto for the most part, but I can do alto-soprano to an extent. (Alto 1 soprano 2 if I'm thinking right.)
---Training: I've only taken 1 year of jazz and a little bit of tap. I hope to do more jazz in the future. My ability is pretty basic, I'm not flexible at all really. (Though in the future I'm dead set on improving that. I can do a straddle, but that's about it.)
---Acting: I'm good with comedy and sarcasm, (I remember a role where a lady I didn't even know complimented me on a humorous role.) I'm looking for more serious roles to play.
Appearance: I'm afraid this image is a bit squished, don't know why, but it's all I have for now. Hope it works! (sorry!)

Wow - you look stunning. Before I mention parts, what's your dancing like and how tall are you? Am assuming you are about 18??
If you are naturally classes as a soprano I would go for Cosette. You look almost too refined to play Eponine. Although of course it depends on what the casting panel is looking for and what you actually sound like, I am just guessing... _________________ Author of ''So you want to tread the boards''....or everything you need to know about a career in the performing arts (with looooong song lists ) - foreword by Leslie Bricusse |

Alright! I'm auditioning for Godspell in a year at my college....the other roles really surprised me because I haven't heard of most of them! (Zanna Don't, Bare, Shenandoah, Tap Dance Kid, Boys From Syrasuse, Grand Hotel). I looked them up so I had an idea...but I'm still surprised. _________________ Previous: Mollie (Animal Farm)

What kind of roles and shows were you expecting? Do let me know.
Casting with you in a professional sense if difficult because you cannot really play older than 18 but also not too young as you are 5ft7 tall - too tall for a young teenager. Also, there are not that many young alto roles around (your range suggests you are clearly an alto) and again, your dance experience is slight, hence that's a limit too. Don't want to sound negative but in terms of professional casting - this is how it would work. Communityand school may well be different and more flexible.
Often how we (or our family and close friends) see ourselves is not how a casting panel sees us. _________________ Author of ''So you want to tread the boards''....or everything you need to know about a career in the performing arts (with looooong song lists ) - foreword by Leslie Bricusse |
