Well I don't really like pop music that much but i think that it is good that popular artists are incorperating musical theater songs into their own style. Through the 50s the top songs on the charts were from musicals, everyone knew these songs. Now a large portion of the population has never seen or heard anything from a Broadway show; so why not let them enjoy the same songs all we musical theater geeks enjoy so much?

HATE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!! *calms down* HATE THIS SONG!!!!!! *deep cleansing breaths* There are so many "funked-up" versions of musical songs. It drives me CRAZY! What I don't get is why its ok to take "Rich Man" from Fiddler example but if they took something from a more modern peice, like Wicked or Les Miz, the artist would be murdered.

Okay... here's what I'm gonna throw down. Gwen Stefani lost my respect when I heard this "song." Crying or Very sad The worst part is, everyone walks around saying, "Oh, I love that song!," when they don't even know how good it actually was when it was a real song set in a real story, of real characters, with real issues. Fiddler on the Roof is such heavy material that it should not be mocked by someone who could buy every accesory on the face of the earth. But no, the bracelets, necklaces, and earings aren't good enough. She has to drag around a bunch of Geisha slaves to take pictures of her. Evil or Very Mad However, if those people screaming they're love for this song were exposed to the beauty that is Fiddler's music, they might join in the tremendous, exilirating, and powerful league of people who love musicals! Hope you feel the same, folks!

Dear Musicals.Net Posters,

Wanna know what's WORSE? What's WORSE is when someone on American Idol makes up their OWN words to a Broadway song, because they FORGOT the REAL words. What's worse than THAT is when you watch that episode of American Idol, and you actually think that the flubbed-up version of your favorite Broadway song is a real, alternate version of the song.

I personally think that "If I Were a Rich Girl" is really catchy, and that it's also sad that kids don't at least know that Gwen Stefani was paying tribute (was she?) to a great Broadway song!

Of course, the lyrics which were flubbed up on American Idol were from a great Pippin song! I felt like the living fool when I realized that the guy had MADE UP HIS OWN LYRICS! They seemed to fit sooo well, and yet, they weren't at all what I had heard John Rubestein sing.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
Cool
