 BANNERS
Please EVERYONE!
On the banners in your Signature Section? Please try to conserve space by keeping the banners small - banners should be approximately no more than 140 pixels tall and 400 pixels long (1.4" x 4" at 100 pixels/inch). You would be surprised how much space they take, and how they slow down loading the thread...

Mod edit: The sizes for this was a compromise from the last casting and applies only to the last casting. The new size limits from now on is 125 x 400 as stated in the new cast listing rules. Thank you.

I second that request! Though if no one has the time, I might be able to coax my brother into making some.

Erm.... am I being dense - isn't 1.5" x 4" the same as 150 pixels x 400 pixels? 150 high not 140 high?

 Answer
MsJellicle reminded me of this...
Normally, the 150 x 400 pixel size would be correctly interpreted as 1.5" by 4" - that is, if you used 100 pixels/inch to create the picture for the banner. However, some people could use different resolutions in their pictures - such as 200 pixels/inch or even 72 pixels/inch.

A friend of mine makes really good avatars and signatures. She made my avatar.
Her name is Quinn...
Her site is Ineaffable
If you ask her nicely and tell her the size and what you what it to look like she will most likely make it for you...

 Re: Answer
The ever-wise Rumbleourr and MsJellicle are correct.
If you are making your own banner for online purposes, the standard resolution is 72dpi. It's the automatic format for Adobe Photoshop.
In which case at 72dpi your banner would be 6cm wide and 2cm tall.
If anyone catches me online on MSN or on the boards I'd be willing to make a banner for them

I do wish that an exact limit had been set BEFORE I'd made three banners and was well into a fourth one. It actually perterbs me quite a lot, and I really don't feel like making a whole new banner for myself, Drumdraper, and musikal_geek as I refuse to resize banners. They're made to be a certain size and look poor and blurry if resized.
I feel as if my time's been wasted, all because the rules weren't layed out, and someone's idea of "small" or "reasonable" isn't the same as someone else's.
I do not wish to make this a bigger deal than it is, and it may be the fact that I've averaged 3 hours of sleep a night for the past two weeks, and have to wrangle 60 children (age 7-11) from 8 - 12 every morning, then spend my evenings working on props for Steel Magnolias or working, but I'm just really bothered by this, and feel like I've been treated a bit unfairly being asked to remove my banner and make a new one because guildlines weren't given before the casting finished.

I don't think the banner that you made for me is too big, Nemi. Yours is kind of on the larger side of life, but so is my gut and nobody's asking me to resize it!

456 x 143 is the size of the banner I made you, and is therefore too large.
There are just certain things you can't accomplish in a tiny banner. If I wanted to just say what characters I am, I'd just put text. But I want to be fancy, darn it.

 *Sigh*
The last thing I want is my Leccy to kick Old Dee in the shins...
Let us not go into pixel disputes right now. The world is throwing enough rocks as it is... Nemi? 143... I do not want to quibble about 3 pixiels... 453... A tad long, but we can live with it... The HEIGHT is the thing that really makes the threads long.
Maybe I should have said that we "TRY" to conserve space... For now, we will worry about banner size only if it gets out of hand... BUT in the future, try to keep banners somewhat manageable...
Old Dee is now taking Excedrine...
