Post Casting a JCS Revival
If you were to cast a major revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, who would you cast?

The reason I ask is because there was some talk on the Random Facts Thread -

Yakko wrote:
Okay we need a revival of Jesus Christ Superstar to happen with Chris Murry as Jesus and Drew Sarich as Judas!

No, no we really don't.... Chris Murray is just laughable for various reasons, although he could be good with the right director, and I don't want to see Drew Sarich slathering my chocolate with his shit anymore. He's done Jesus Christ Superstar far too often, and far too badly.

- and I thought it might be more relevant to discuss it here. I certainly would like to see some decent reasons given for the opinions stated above and wouldn't mind hearing about other options. I know I've seen a number of people on various boards suggest the Adam Lambert should play Judas at some point and I think that Cito, who is opening this month in a revival of the South African production that also went on tour to Athens and the Far East, is a marvelous Jesus, probably the best I have ever heard.

I saw a video on Youtube of Adam Lambert singing "Heaven On Their Minds." I don't think I like how he throws those super-high screams of his into the song. He also might be a bit too much of a pretty-boy to be Judas for my tastes...

I wish Freddie Mercury wasn't dead. I've always thought he'd be perfect for Jesus.

True story: In the 1980s, a major revival of JCS was batted about suggesting Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury in the leading roles. Financial problems led to the end of that idea.

I went to the open-call for American Idiot in Boston with a friend of mine and while driving down there, we discussed about our dream cast for a near-future revival.
Here's mine :

Judas : Tituss Burgess
Jesus : Drew Sarich
Mary : Rebecca Naomi Jones
Pilate : Marc Kudisch
Herod : Mitchell Jarvis
Simon Zealotes : Joey Taranto
Soul Singer : Sasha Allen
Peter : Joshua Henry

Drew Sarich is the best thing to happen to JCS in the last 20 years in both Judas/Jesus. He makes bold acting choices and sings the heck out of the songs.

That's a great idea! He's a great singer, but also an amazing actor.
Many Judas had great voices, but also had a certain lack on the interpretation side. With Esparza, that wouldn't be the case.

I don't like Drew Sarich as Jesus at all! I think he overacts the part, and his Gethsemane is 5 minutes of "I've got anger management issues".

Drew Sarich is an okay Judas at best; I do not like him as Jesus whatsoever. As I said earlier in this thread courtesy of RainbowJude, I don't want to see Drew Sarich slathering my chocolate with his shit anymore. He's done Jesus Christ Superstar far too often, and far too badly.
