 Jekyll & Hyde audition questions
Jekyll & Hyde auditions are coming up, and I'm trying to decide whether to audition for Emma or Lucy. The deciding factor will be the amount of dancing involved in the Lucy role. Does anyone know if there is a lot? It's been a while since I saw the show performed, and I couldn't find anything around the internet about it... I am technically a soprano, but feel comfortable in mezzo range / mixed belt. Aaand of course I would also love audition song recs if y'all have 'em. Thanks!!

Re: Jekyll & Hyde audition questions
It depends on what personality is easier for you to act. Emma is very shy and reserved, whereas Lucy is very bold and bombastic. Lucy is the larger role and has lots more singing. Her first big song is "Bring on the Men" (or "Good N Evil", if your director chooses), which is performed in he club where she works, but it's the only song where she dances. And 'dancing' is a generous term because at best all you'll be doing is performing with a chair, a la a stripper. In terms of audition songs, if you decide to go for Emma, I would suggest "Waiting for my Dearie" from Brigadoon. Or for Lucy, there's a song from The Scarlet Pimpernel (also a Wildhorn score) called "When I Look At You" that is practically a twin to a song that Lucy sings called "A New Life".

Thanks for the insight! I'm still not sure which one I'll go for, but this helps.

OK so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go for Lucy. Is it considered bad form to sing an ALW song for a Wildhorn production?
Here are some other songs I was considering for the audition (that I know better - I'm not very familiar with The Scarlet Pimpernel):
Tell Me on a Sunday - Tell Me on a Sunday What I Did For Love - Chorus Line You Must Love Me - Evita Another Suitcase In Another Hall - Evita
Any thoughts? I'm leaning towards Tell Me on a Sunday or You Must Love Me... Bad idea?

Those both sound like good choices. I've never heard anyone say to not audition with Webber: as a rule of thumb, the three "no-no's" are Sondheim, Brown, and Guettel.

Awesome - thank you again! And yeah I literally just read the entire "If you're auditioning for __, don't sing __" thread just in case.

Way to go! What did you end up singing?

Re: Jekyll & Hyde audition questions
I sang "Tell Me On A Sunday." It ended up being problematic, though, because the proper tempo for the song is unclear (it's a song that's typically sung very conversationally, with lots of rests, and open to interpretation by the performer). At the audition the accompanist played it a lot more slowly than I had practiced. So I learned my lesson, and probably won't use that song again. It was a fun experiment, though! And generally a good choice for the character I was going for.
