Sweeney Todd

Harry in Company (Bobby probably isn't gonna happen)

The Witch and Narrator/Mysterious Man in Into the Woods

The Boatman in Sunday in the Park with George (I'd like George, but... Patinkin ensured the role would be written for a tenor. Same as Bobby.)

Ben in Follies

Actually the role of George was transposed for Philip Quast

I've already played the Baker, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Toby- Sweeney Todd
Buddy- Follies
Pseudolus- Forum

Bobby and George would be awesome but I doubt I'd do them justice, lol.

Was it actually transposed for him? I was under the impression that Quast just has a really strong upper register.

Nah it was transposed, Philip's high note for "finishing the Hat" is a major third lower than Patinkin's (I've sung both keys). Quast's upper range is powerful but really not above a G. I read a few articles about it a little while back

Anita in West Side Story (I know he only wrote the lyrics, but I don't care)
The Witch in Into the Woods
Rose in Gypsy purely for her amazing solos.

Post Re: Dream Sondheim Role?
Anita in West Side Story (if only I looked Puerto Rican enough to satisfy most directors)
The Witch in Into the Woods
Rose in Gypsy
Joanne in Company
Cora in Anyone Can Whistle
Dot (and all the other roles she plays) in Sunday in the Park with George

If I had to pick one out of all of these as my ultimate dream Sondheim role that I'd realistically get, it would be Cora.

Updating two years after my last post to the thread:

Sweeney Todd: Todd. I've now auditioned for this show three times, been called back for Todd every time... and not yet played it. I'm currently playing Turpin again and understudying Todd. Bright side: on a professional audition a few weeks ago, I sang "My Fridnds" and afterwards, the AD asked me what show I was currently in.
"Sweeney Todd, actually."
"Oh! Because, I was going to say, your voice is perfect for that!"

Into the Woods: The Baker. I ended up playing MM/Narrator last year. My major issue there was that I was too old for the room -- I'm only 40 (and play 30-35) but the other candidates were all early 20s. It happens.

Assaddins: Probably Czolgosz -- the part fits me best, though I was given a chance to play Byck recently (that I had to turn down due to scheduling with Todd -- DRAT!) that made me re-examine, and that could be a LOT of fun.

Company: Peter or Harry. A local professional company I did generals at a couple weeks ago is doing this next season, so that's a possibility.

After performing Henrik, I have been hooked on Sondheim. There are many, many roles that I would like in the future, but a few stand out.

Anthony - Sweeney Todd
I just really want to do the Kiss Me sequence.

Balladeer - Assassins
This is one of my dream roles overall, not just in Sondheim.

Jack- ItW
I've wanted this for forever, and I'm ready for it vocally now.

Then of course, there's two of the more coveted of Sondheim roles: Bobby and George.
