I work with a repertory company run entirely by actors or former actors. Our Max and Elsa were a familiar husband and wife team who usually served as the director (Max) and choreographer (Elsa). Ironically, Max is a high tenor, and Elsa is a rather low, smoky alto, so they traded vocal parts, leading to a Max who sang and sustained high Cs a lot in the show. The audience loved it.

Here I never even knew the baroness had any songs! (I've only seen the movie of course)
From a certain perspective it makes sense to cut them - music and singing are part of the bond linking Maria to the Von Trapps - having the baroness sing would interfere with that

only problem is those 2 songs along with edleweiss are the only 3 exceptional songs in the show.

Re: Elsa never gets enough credit! lol
Whn I played the role they included the farewell scene from the film.. and alot of the dialouge from the film on her first entrance. it humanizes her alot more. just remember she's a real person, not a villian by ay means..she freely releases Von Trapp so he can marry Maria. all this after they realize their philosophies an priotities dont mesh.
we used the version of 'how can love survive' from the 1998 revival..where von trapp isnt present on stage while max and elsa sing about the relationship..i think it makes more sense that wya and only requires the change "person" "no little shack does HE share with me' as oppossed to 'do YOU share with me". any elsa questions feel free to message me.
