Maury Yeston's DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY
It's been a long time coming, but Death Takes a Holiday is getting a full scale production at last
, albeit one under the auspices of the remarkably inconsistent Roundabout Theatre Company. With a book by Peter Stone and Thomas Meehan and a score by Maury Yeston, the off-Broadway production will be directed by Doug Hughes and will start previews in June, open in July and run through till September. The cast will include:
Linda Balgord as Contessa Danielli,
Matt Cavenaugh as Eric Fenton,
Mara Davi as Alice,
Joy Hermalyn as Cora,
Jay Jaski as Lorenzo,
Simon Jones as Dr. Dario Albione,
Rebecca Luker as Duchess Lamberti,
Patricia Noonan as Sophia,
Julian Ovenden as Prince Sirki / Death,
Jill Paice as Grazia,
Michael Siberry as Duke Lamberti,
Alexandra Socha as Daisy Fenton,
Don Stephenson as Fidele, and
Max Von Essen as Corrado Montelli.
Based on a play of the same title, many people here probably know better the film Meet Joe Black
, which was a contemporary American adaptation of the play, which is originally set in Italy. The musical will retain the post-World War I Italian setting and will apparently remain quite faithful to the original play, which tells the story of Death coming to experience human existance and then falling in love.
I'm surprised Elliott hasn't created a thread about this yet! So, any thoughts? I hope it does well and that we get a cast recording. The cast looks pretty good.
