Post Starlight Express back at the Apollo Victoria Theatre ...
Well, as part of a Gala Variety show celebrating the theatre's 80th birthday, anyway.

Stage blacks, minimal makeup, a fantastic huge cast spanning the decades, the wonderful Les Dwight even got back up on his rollerskates to reprise Greaseball in Rolling Stock... it was all fantastic.

the Starlight section was very nearly the end of the evening of varied acts, representing all the artistes and shows that the theatre has hosted since 1930, and apart from the GODDESS Sharon D. Clarke in her two sections (her own, and covering for Pattina Miller who was indisposed) they were by far the most loudly and enthusiastically received by the entire audience.

Oh, and the show finished with a downbeat multi-singer version of 'For Good' from Wicked. Well, it IS the current show in the ApVic.

But... Starlight OWNED the evening. They got the only standing ovation - not even Wayne Sleep or Sharon got that! And the after-show partying was apparently also pretty epic.

Maybe some day a nostalgic revival production of the ORIGINAL Starlight Express will be run in the O2 Dome, where there's oodles of room for a purpose-built huge racetrack and proper lighting etc.

We can hope!

Ah yes, the Bochum Sitzplan. The Bochum show is great fun, despite recent brutal cutbacks in the number of band musicians and the pay is absolutely awful for the performers, but it's at least keeping Starlight alive!
