Calling all Musical Directors!
Our society is trying to save some money on the next show - Guys & Dolls.
Can anyone recommend a tried & tested line up using less than the 17 players that Weinbergers state?

I did G&D four years ago and our MD re-scored it down to two keyboards, bass and drums, and it worked beautifully. I'm not sure what hoops we had to jump through to get permission to do that (in terms of the rights to the show) - we are a professional company though, and we don't have the space for a full band, so that may have helped us some. We did have one trumpet sting recorded for the beginning of Fugue for Tinhorns because it just didn't sound quite right without it!

I am doing GnD in October. I have seen it done with 2 reeds (versatile Flute sax clarinet players) Trumpet, Trombone, Keyboard, bass and drums so that is what I am going for. I think the strings are often doubled on the reed parts so they shouldn't have to transpose.
