What do you think? I've seen it both ways. Kelli O'hara does portrays her nicely with an accent in the revival. What do you prefer?

O'Hara's accent is phony and distracting. I can't tell whether she's doing an Atlanta accent or a Mayfair one. No accent would even be better. Or learn the speech patterns of Bill Clinton, a true Little Rockian.

I wouldn't do it so much as an accent, but rather as an affectation. I think the actress should show the affect of coming from Little Rock rather than just a cornball accent. For me, O'Hara's accent sounded a little to much like Sara Gettelfinger's portrayal of Little Edie Beale.

I was actually just thinking about this, since I have auditions in a few weeks for Nellie... Maybe a slight twinge on a few words is what I was thinking. Otherwise it's too distracting, as everyone said.

I'm going to use a Southern accent but not a full-on drawl. I like Kelli's accent in the revival but I think elements of it could be softened like in the movie.

I speak from a UK perspective.... !
