the reality is high school theatre scene IS very political, and I'd like to remind fellow high schoolers that if the politics involved keep people from getting parts, not to be discouraged. Would you think that someone singing Happy Birthday for a West Side Story audition would gain a part whereas someone went to great length choosing their audition song didn't? No. But that's what happened to me. So, as hard as it can be, remember there is still theatre outside of school and not to let one audition/theatre determine the rest of your life. Smile

I would have to agree. Amateur theatre in general is very political, really. I can actually relate to you a bit on the West Side Story thing. I sang "If Ever I Would Leave You" from Camelot for an audition for a community theatre production of WSS, aiming for ensemble, and a fellow guy in my group sang The National Anthem. He was neither white nor Hispanic. Yet he was cast and I wasn't. d'oh!

hiya :]

Next year (28th of january to be exact [I'm australian]), I am changing schools to a boarding school.
At the start of term 1, I plan to audition for my new schools amazing (!!!) elite choir. They also have a general junior and senior choir. This elite choir takes in about 25 people from grades 9 through 12. (Im 14 in March, going into 9th grade)

I was just wondering if you had any suggestions at all for what song to sing for my audition, as I recently changed vocal coaches.
This was because my first coach didn't help me improve my skills but just had me sing songs without telling me what I was doing wrong or right.
My new teacher has chosen the song Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid to work on for an upcoming concert.
Now I would have sung this song for my audition, the problem is it is quite overdone.
So I was wondering if you had any suggestions [:

PS.
Sorry I didnt quite think this was going to be this long.

and also I'm an alto.

I'll listen to the videos later (I'm in a hurry, sorry!) but one tip I can definitely say is pick a song (I'll think about it) that shows your ability to blend. Typically, select ensembles, when auditioning like to see how people blend with each other....

Again, I'll think of something later...

You're welcome! Smile I can't think of a song, though, after I thought for awhile ... I'm surprised they don't make you just sight read stuff on the spot.
