Sunday I begin rehearsals for my church production of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." This is my first time directing, although I've been the assistant director for the church shows for the past three years. So... Any advice for a newbie?

You're in charge, remember that. But also allow the cast to have enough control to create their characters.

Have fun.

Don't give up, however hard it may be at times.

As some one said: "You and every one else is there for a reason - and that reason isnt you."

And another wisdom word: "Among with all the sunshine it gotta be a rain sometime."

At the premiere youre job is almost done (if youre not the stage manager as well) but the actors job is merly begining.

Dont forget to have fun!

Execute your own vision and don't be afraid to change things if they aren't working out. Even if the change wasn't your idea - if it's good, keep it.

Make sure to plan FAR ahead...rehearsals and everything. People need to know ahead of time what is happening. That would be my first piece of advice.
If you have little kids in your show, have somebody watch them AT ALL TIMES.

Hope it goes well!

I definitely agree with the suggestion of having someone watch the kids ALL the time. You never now what trouble they can get up to in a theatre, even in two minutes!
