Valid points... but I still think the show has easily accessible leads for baritones -> I didn't mean that Rent was an exception, just that "rock musical" to me doesn't necessarily mean tenor domination. Or at least, I would hope my voice part wouldn't be marginalized or less-preferred for dynamic characters in rock musicals
Somebody on the board might get uppity and start listing baritone characters whom they consider dynamic...mainly my annoyance is with the misguided association between rock musicals and the need for men screaming their heads off @ high D. |

I also had this question about what vocal range pilate must have, so thank you for your information.
You seem to know some stuff about voices.
I have a problem that i cannot find out wether i am a barytone or a tenor

I recently pulled that recording off my CD shelves a few weeks ago. I really enjoy his performance. He's the first baritone Pilate I ever heard and he sounds great.

Unless there have been any "official" key changes, Pilate's range over the entire score is written from the A below the staff (A2) to the Bb above the staff (Bb4). The "screaming" at the end of the Trial sequence is pitched from E4 to Bb4; other than that portion, Pilate's range only extends to Gb4 (the first pitch in the run for the lyrics "Do you have the first idea why you deserve it?").
I am not certain what this makes the vocal line itself. |
