Post I have been cast...now what?
Hello everyone.

I have been cast in a completely unexpected role: Ida Strauss - she is more than twice my age! Yikes. I don't know much about the show. What does Ida sing? What vocal part is she - I am assuming I got it because of my voice - I am a soprano...Does she have any dialogue...really any insight would be appreciated!

Has anyone ever had to play a character who is so much older then themself? Any advice?

Thanks.

Ida's main song is "Still", the touching duet between the Strauss', as the ship is about to sink. In addition, she's featured in "No Moon", "Autumn", "The First Class Roster", and "To the Lifeboats."
She is a soprano, I believe. She should be a fantastic role to play! Super jealous you got cast! Best of luck!

thank-you! The web sites I have looked at only show her as singing in No Moon and Still. I sure hope you are right and she has other solo singing lines. Seems kinda weird to have her do nothing and then all of a sudden sing these 2 songs.

I wonder in a cast this size how hard it will be to devolop a character that hte audience will have time to absorb and understand.

You DO know she is based on a real person, right? She and her husband founded Macy's Department stores! She is one of the most memorable characters in the show.

She does have scenes too, I believe. I, personally, do not have the script, but I have seen videos of dialogue between she and her husband.
It's a fantastic role to play--scratch that, it's a fantastic show in general. One of my all-time favorites, and I'd KILL to be in a production. Break a leg!

^ Definitely. "Still" is one of the most touching love songs ever written, imo.

The biggest role is Mr. Andrews, I believe. I could be (and I probably am) wrong, though.

I thought Fred Barrett was the biggest male role. Oh, and I think Kate McGowan has at least as much stage time as Alice (and she's a LOT more interesting, IMO).
