and it was great. I have never seen the show before so I didn't really know if I would like it or not and I am glad to say I really enjoyed it.

That DVD was my first-ever exposure to musical theatre. I loved it too and it continues to hold a little place in my heart. Try to find a good live production to see that does it WITHOUT the glitz and added crap, though. The show is immeasureably better that way.

My first experience of the show was with community theatre that had no glitz whatsoever. It was truly amazing.

The show doesn't need all the flash and dazzle-it's great fun on it's own. The OCR is worth tracking down, it's very pared down compared to the revival recordings.
The flash and dazzle is certainly fun, just extraneous.

OCR is out of print, so pretty difficult to track down, believe me, I've tried!

The only recording you need is the 1982 OBC.

I'll try and track it down, thanks. I would absolutly love to see it live. The nearest theatre is 2 hours away in Austin, Ft. Worth/Dallas or Waco so I don't get to go as often as I would like. Our library puts on a show every year (we did Sound of Music in December and I played the Captain) I think when we do another show I will suggest this one so we can include more of the kids, they seem to love to be in the show.

It is great, however, I prefer some elements of the stage version.

i was really surprised to see all of joseph's brothers were the teachers sitting on the side in the audience. i recognized joan collins playing the piano, but it didnt cross my mind that the brothers were in the audience also.

anybody else shocked at the end?

This show is so Amazing!!! My mother loves it and we watched the movie together when I was little and it introduced me to theatre! I love how it can have a really great meaning and still be tons of fun with all the different types of music. It will never grow old!

Same! I basically didn't notice anyone of the teachers was in it. And when they did that, the first time I watched it, I got shivers. Sticks with me to this day.
