Even though I love Patti, Glen is my one and only favorite Norma.
When I look at Patti, I see Patti. When I look at Glen, I see Norma Desmond. Her voice, her face.. Everything is how it should be!

I'd say Patti, she had the voice and she played character like how I'd imagine Norma to be.

Close was perfection in the role. No one will ever play a better Norma Desmond. I think it's Close's finest acting performance to date and, actually, one of the finest female performances in musical theatre to date.
How anyone can say that LuPone was better is beyond me. LuPone is good sometimes but she will never be the actress that Close is.

How can you understand what she's saying? Her diction is horrible.

On the ride home from NYC last weekend I went on a rant about her diction....most of the people in the van didn't know who she was or anything about her at least. I then compared her diction to Britney Spears and they all seemed to get it.

Well I love Patti because she has the voice, even Billy Wilder said so...
I don't hate Close, but I hate that accent she makes... Plus I don't really get a Gloria Swanson vibe from her....Nor from Patti if for that matters...

YThe voice Close uses is one of the strong points..its a very "Tallulah Bnakhea styel voicw...very old hollywood. and you souldnt get 'gloria swanson" vibe from her..glenn wasp laying norma desmond..not gloria swanson playing nroma desmond. patti was..just patti...clunky, marblemouthed and shallow.

I liked them both in certain ways, but overall, I give this one to Glenn. She seemed much closer to how Gloria Swanson played the role (especially her facial expressions). Patti was vocally powerful, but her acting felt a little too subdued at some points, and I agree her diction was pretty bad. That said, neither of them were represented very well by their cast recordings.
