I just found out approximately four hours ago that the best theatre company in the area is doing the King and I this summer, my favorite of all music teachers is the vocal director and the audition in two WEEKS, literally two days after my show closes!
Now, I live in a virtually homogeneous place, and in the last three years, I think 1 non-white person had auditioned for this company's show, so it would be fairly safe bet to audition for Tuptim, right? Since she is the only character other than the children and maybe a really young wife that I'm old enough for, but how high does she sing?
I think the audition requirements are two contrasting songs, sixteen bars and I'm thinking about Getting To Know You(King and I) and No Other Love(Me and Juliet). Any thoughts or comments to help me? I REALLY want to nail this audition, especially since No Other Love is a probable college auditon song for next year. But I'd have to relearn both songs since I haven't done them in forever and I have no proper music instruction now.
