 The Next Mama Rose
I was just wondering...who would make a good Mama Rose that hasn't already? I am talking about anyone...Broadway stars, Movie stars, TV stars, and even those people who don't fall under any category. And I am not talking about the present. I am talking about the type of people who would make good Mama Roses...maybe in ten or fifteen years.
By no means am I suggesting a revival. God knows there have been too many. Although I do love Gypsy
One person's name I heard mentioned in a conversation I've had about this topic is...Sutton Foster.
Okay...Go.

No for Sutton. She's amazing, but NO.
I say...if it happens in 10 or 15 years....Heidi Blickenstaff.

If they remake the movie in a decade or two, I'd love to see Catherine Zeta Jones play her. If it was remade right now, I'd definitely say Stockard Channing.

I'd love to see Ruthie Henshall in about 15 years.

Christine Ebersole is brilliant but she is in NO way a Mama Rose type. First off, she is a soprano and her voice is just all wrong for the role. Ruthie Henshall and Heidi Blickenstaff are wonderful actresses but I couldn't envision them as Mama Rose either.
Stockard Channing is the only one mentioned in this thread that I could see as Rose.

Our Rose was a coloratura soprano, and she was brilliant in the part.
