How is there no depth to Laurey? She fights the social norm to be completely head over heels for a guy, states her independence as a woman, deals with a creepy farmer, and finds true happiness in the end. How is that not deep?

absolutely. unlike many ingenue roles laurey is tough, clever,witty, brave and she grows as the play progresses. fights off her own sexual desires for jud to find happiness with curley.

well, it's NOT deep comparing her to, say, Lady Macbeth. But what does one expect of an 18-, 19-year old who hasn't gone to college or even ventured to Kansas City? She's a good match for a nice chap like Curley who hasn't gone much further in life either -- at least at that stage of the story.

sorry everyone but I am such a classic person that I have to say I like the original one ts just the one I grew up with but love the songs so happy with them
