Post Mamma Mia Movie: Will It Be Good?
What do you guys think? I just posted my thoughts on the Mamma Mia movie on my blog, but I want to see what others think?

What do you think is going to be really good about the movie? What are you not sure about? What do you think will be bad about the movie?

I'd say this clip is pretty good proof she can do a musical: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-d2i4PhqlM

Whether she'll be good as Donna I'm not sure...but I'm thinking so...

And films that are dramatic can't carry themselves? Or do you mean just musical films that are dramatic?

I've got news for you. The Phantom of the Opera wasn't a flop because it was dramatic. For many other reasons, yes. But not because it was dramatic.

For me the #1 reason the PotO movie didn't work was Gerard Butler's crappy singing. :x And his acting didn't successfully personify "the phantom". The film had other problems but replacing Butler with a more competent singer/actor would have helped the film a great deal.

Movie musicals have traditionally been light comedies so Mamma Mia! should fit the mold quite well. But I'm not a big fan of classical Hollywood musicals (although there are some I like) so I hope Mamma Mia! will be more representative of a 'modern' movie musical. Sorry, but I'm not sure how to define that.

i quite like the idea of brosnan

i assume he's playing sam?

as long as he can sing well i think he'll be perfect, and they wouldn't have cast him if he couldn't sing.

Meryl Streep is a very experienced singer (you can hear her sing solo in the international trailer-frickin amazing!)

Brosnan is indeed Sam
Colin Firth is Harry
Stallan Skarsgaard (sp?) is Bill
Christine Baranski is Tanya

The trailers are awsome...I'm very excited since at leats the vocal quality appears to be good.
