Yes I have. I was referring to the book of the show...

I just found the book pretentious and predictible. The "jokes" weren't funny. And boring when it comes to the arrangements of the songs: no surprises there (save the lovely ballad version of "The Winner Takes It All"), could have stayed home and listen to the ABBA albums because the songs sounded exactly the same and where they actually can sing those songs.

It depends on the cast. One particular American cast (with Canadians in the two leads) did a fantastic job with the show. Really energetic and entertaining...got me hooked on musicals. Sadly, no Mamma Mia! cast I've seen since has been able to duplicate that 'magic' of the original cast of Tour 2. And being funny has a lot to do with the person telling the joke or as we call it "timing". A skilled comedian can make even poor material funny. And in my opinion, songs in the hands of a talented Broadway cast leave ABBA in the dust. That's the problem with pop singers. They just sing the song and don't put any real feeling or perhaps more correctly 'acting' into their performance, and few actually sing really well and can belt.
