Its a bit late to reply but you where so totaly right about Rachel Tucker, she was an amazing Elpaba and managed to do make the songs her own. And she was really nice at the stage door as well.

All of the girls that I know are obsessed with it and think that they're "Broadway Divas", yet they have no idea who Sondheim even is. It really gets on my nerves. I thought Wicked was good, but it's become very trite and overrated.

Well, it is one of my favourites and I thought that it was absolutely fantastic when I saw it last year - it even brought a tear to my eye! I love it

I'm pretty "meh" on Wicked. To be specific, I think most of the music's pretty good, and the lyrical work is good to very good. My problem's with the book -- namely, that they essentially bought the rights to a very interesting piece of fiction apparently for the title and marketing and threw away pretty much everything that made the novel interesting in favor of simplicity and cliché.

So it's an ambivalence that ends up averaing out to a "good"ish.

I think it's very overrated and I don't really care much for the story or the music.

I saw it in London a couple of years ago. Great set, fantastic costumes, very good cast, but somehow the storyline and the music failed to make it past 'fairly good' on my personal rating. I'm really not a fan of that style of music, and the story was painfully Politically Correct.
It was also painfully loud. I loathe the modern trend to over-amplify everything.

Man, I so agree! I couldn't get past the fact that almost all of Elphaba's songs are belted. I felt like I was screamed at every time she sang.
