Post subject:  Some Advice Needed

Hello everyone,

I'm playing the wizard in my drama schools production. The production isn't just "Wicked", its both "The Wizard of Oz" and "Wicked", with a few extra bits added by our drama teacher.

I just need some advice on the character I'm going to play, especially with the accent. My teacher said I need to use an American accent, could anyone give me advice or know of any clips I could watch so I have a better understanding of the accent and tone to use.

Some general advice on the character would also be much appreciated. My teacher said the wizard is a showman, so I have to incorporate that into the character. Some other tips and advice would be highly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
Stevj016.

Maybe I shouldn't use the term production, because you're not the first to mention something along those lines. This is not at a big theatre or anything, its literally just between us at our small local drama school. So rest assured its not what you first thought, its all legal.

Thanks,
Stevj016.

Do you mean to say you think it is in fact illegal? Sorry but I'm not good at judging these things lol, but I just felt that you think I'm doing something wrong. Hopefully I'm totally wrong, but so far I feel I'm being made to think I'm doing something wrong. I'm now really worried, I'm sure its all legal, but what if its not? Theres no tickets or anything being sold lol, its NO WAY near that scale, its just in our little hall. Its going to play on my mind, it didn't even cross my mind that it could be illegal, since its just a bit of fun, but now I'm worried. I'm still quite sure its all ok but could someone put my mind at ease.

Thanks,
Stevj016.

It's very illegal. Wicked's rights are still restricted to do any part of the show. Blending two shows, unrestricted or otherwise, is illegal in the first place. If you have the rights to The Wizard of Oz (which are indeed out) not performing the entire piece is illegal also.

Ok I'm 16, so if me and my friend act out a scene from the play in my house, are we breaking the law? Its not much more than that really, just in a little hall, its even the back hall (connected with a kitchen), and the eldest is 16 (me). Are we 100% breaking the law?

Thanks,
Stevj016.

P.S. This is not a performance to anyone, its just for us to work on in class.
