I've just listened to the cast recording of the show - it's FANTASTIC. One of the best I've heard in a long time.

I saw this show shortly after the Tony nominations were announced. It's worth ALL the hype, and is really quite sweet and not mean-spirited. Good score, fantastic cast.

I'm loving the cast recording, and reading the reaction from Mormons, self-righteous religious nuts, ex-Mormons, and basically everybody.

I googled all the beliefs spelled out in "I Believe" and to my surprise, every single one of them checks out. These South Park guys are beyond intelligent, having grown up with Mormons.

I really love Robert Lopez's tributes to Disney throughout the score. And Sal Tlay Ka Siti has a ton of musical references to Somewhere That's Green, which is appropriate because they're both similar thematically. I can go on and on about the score but it's 2am lol

A lot of the songs in the show are stealing styles from other songs. Besides the one you mentioned, I noticed:

I Believe <= I Have Confidence (Sound of Music)
Hasa Diga Eegowai <= Hakuna Matata (The Lion King)
You And Me (but Mostly Me) <= Defying Gravity (Wicked)

I got the recording Sunday and I'm almost to the point of going door-to-door with "Hello. My name is Elder Rorgg. I'd like to tell you about this amazing Cast Recording..." I got at least a half dozen people to buy this on the crazy $1.99 sale yesterday.

Can't wait for the tour.

I get a lot of "Loathing" and "For Good" out of "You And Me," as well. Having seen the show twice now, I'm convinced they're trying to convey that in the staging, too.

The Ugandans' retelling of what they believe to be the origins of the LDS church are also very similar to "The Small House of Uncle Thomas" from The King and I.

I got "The Wizard and I" from "You and Me."

Guess it's just "Wicked in general?"

Probably. There were a couple riffs in there that I associated with "Defying Gravity" but Wicked does use some musical motifs heavily, so they appear multiple places.

The Ugandans retelling song is called "Joseph Smith, American Moses" btw.

Oh, and the Recording hit #3 on the Billboard list for last week. First cast recording to go top-10 since Hair in 1969.
