Post If you won the lottery...
So, for my Fundamentals of Music Theatre class final, we have to write a paper saying what we would do if we won the lottery (basically an unlimited amount of money). Our options were
-Revive a show - what would you do with it? who would you cast? why do you feel it should be revived?
-Commission a new show - which composer? what kind of story? why?

I just got to wondering what people would do :) what would YOU do?

I'd ressurect Rodgers and Hammerstein to write a new show specifically for me to play the lead :P

You'd never see me again. I'll be downtown. Get a nice studio; stay out of the barrio. ;)

I would revive Jekyll and Hyde, using my fanscript (assuming unlimited money means Wildhorn and Bricusse can't say no  ).

I don't have a definite cast in mind, though James Barbour in the title roles is a possibility which occurs to me frequently.

Or, alternatively, rather than a 'revival', I would simply open it as a brand new production on the West End.

Theater related, I'll fund and bring productions of "Lord of the Rings," "Yoduk Story" and "Queen Seon Deok"(both South Korean shows) to broadway.

Ya beat me to it...except I was gonna use Benny's solo! "If I won the lotto, well I know, I wouldn't bother going on no spending spree...."

Anyway, this is just off the top of my head, but I would commission Sondheim to write a musical about the Bush administration. I think he could do wonders with it.

On that note, I'd commission Sondheim to write anything the man wanted, so long as it was good and worthy of the Sondheim name.

Tanz Der Vampire in English in Australia. A replica production of the original, staring Anthony Warlow and Renee Burleigh.

Or, Maskerade, by Terry Pratchett
Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber, operetta in the Opera scenes, and various Jazz, rock, kitschy music to suit the rest.
Lyrics: Pratchett, if he's up to it, if not, Richard Stilgoe.

Cast would include
Granny: Pia Douwes
Nanny: Toni Lamond or Colleen Hewitt
Agnes: Ana Marina in a fat suit.

I totally agree on commissioning Sondheim on writing another musical.

Could you send me a link to the information about Sondheim's new projects? I'd love to know what they are!
