Well...Although the story sounds great....I didn't like the score....

Agreed. After seeing the Tonys performance, I thought the music was dreadful, but I'm probably in the minority. Definitely an interesting topic, though.

(I'm not going to go through the process of downloading the whole thing if THAT was what they chose to showcase.)

Agreed. I did not care for the music in the slightest.

What I like about the score is the range of musical styles it encompasses. There's rock, classic Broadway, folk, country, 'JRB-style' and semi-techno, to name a few. It's quite an impressive collection.

Oh yes, the range of music it includes reminds me of Rent. At first glance it's just another rock musical, but the different styles it includes really aren't all that different from Rent. I mean, at first glance, Rent IS just a rock musical, but delving deeper, you find soul, tango, and a hint of classical Broadway in some songs. Next to Normal's the same way.

Next to Normal did what I was planning to do with mine...--these different musical styles. I was thinking of having rock, something like celtic/folk, country, and techno. It makes me wonder if I'll be seen as a copycat. :(

Next to Normal wasn't the first, one I can think of off the top of my head is Seussical.

Did Seussical use these exact same styles? I'm planning on using the same styles that are apparently already in Next To Normal is what I'm saying.

Seussical used country, R&B, Latin, folk, and classic Broadway.

Haha, the score for Seussical's a mess at points. There's a HUGE variety. Another one like that I can think of is Parade. Parade has bluegrass, country, soul, and classic Broadway as well.

This show went though a big process from the first production to the broadway production. I'll post some videos of the off broadway stuff.

Does anyone know what the rush process is for N2N and how early you need to be there?

a early song from the show that was supposed to go near the beggining when we figure out diane has a problem. It was a fairly good song.
