Post Rock of Ages
Has anybody seen this show?? Is it worth seeing in New York? Is there actually a plot line...like Jersey Boys, or is it just a concert of all 80s music?

There IS a plotline to Rock of Ages. It's not Sondheim (or, as the show calls him, "Andrew Lloyd Sondheim,"), but it's funny and loud and wild.

A wannabe rocker and his waitress love-interest fall in love, break up and make up on the Sunset Strip as they battle an evil German landscaper who wants to tear down the biggest rock club in town.

It's funnier than it sounds.

Well the transfer of the show won't be for a while, so I'm sure she still wants to be involved...

Just to warn you, there's loads of swearing and *ahem* references in this show.

I walked out at intermission...

Everything I've seen of Rock of Ages was terrible. The cast recording is mediocre, and all the performances I've seen on YouTube were lackluster. Just another jukebox musical.

Just curious- a question for the people who dislike Rock of Ages. Did you like the original songs the show is based around, or did you just not like the performances in the show?

And as far as it being "just another jukebox musical," the show fully acknowledges this. The narrator breaks character to complain about how he wanted to be doing Shakespeare, and ended up in a show with "poop jokes and Whitesnake songs." At the end of the show, he drops character completely to tell the lead that he's only a character in a musical, and if he has problems he can't solve, he should blame the book writers- and then advises him to "go off book" and rewrite the ending HIS way.

I really like 80's rock, and I hate the musical. From A to Z.
I'm not a fan of Constantine Maroulis too... it doesn't help

Hi Salome.

First off, just [Mod edit - don't attack other members]

Second off, he didn't say he walked out because of swearing. He just said that he walked out at intermission. Maybe he just didn't like this putrid show. Who knows?

Oh, but no matter what, you're better than him.
