I saw SA a couple months ago.

BEST LIGHTING I"VE EVER SEEN.
And staging and stage decorating. Visually GORGEOUS.

I very much agree. Production wise, it's stunning.

And I agree about the book as well, it's definitely weak (especially in comparison with Wedekind's original play, which is brilliant)

my thing is this... if it was that good, why isn't it still running? Everyone loved Wicked and RENT and Avenue Q... all of those shows had long runs...
does anyone know why Spring awakening didn't go so long?

(*I* did not love Wicked and Avenue Q.)

And if you list the top 100 longest-running musicals on Broadway, the top 100 highest-grossing movies, you'll also find plenty of people who think several are crap. Length of run doesn't necessarily correlate with quality, since one can be quantified and the other is in the eye of the beholder.

Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. The point is, just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good -- and just because something is underground/unknown/doesn't make money/gets crappy ratings doesn't mean it's bad.
