It's great to be knowledgeable like TVAW was in this case and you too, but sometimes it's nice to be a novice at some shows and be able to enjoy it for the experience you want it to be. Have a great night.

I completely agree. When I first saw Spelling Bee I'd listened to the cast recording once, maybe 6 months before, and when I realized I'd be seeing it, I avoided all talk about it and didn't listen to it again. It really helped.

Sure, I like to approach every show knowing nothing about it if it is the first time I'm seeing it. That was the case for me with Spelling Bee as well. The only show for which I did some "preparation" was CATS. I read T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.

But after I've seen a show, and if it was interesting, I do like to know more about it and even dissect it. I'll always have my first impressions of a show. The second time I saw Spelling Bee, I knew what to look for and saw some things I'd missed. The most interesting were the words used, especially those for the audience "competitors" and figuring out how much was scripted and how much was spontaneous.

Speaking of amazing nights at spelling bee, did anyone hear about Julie Andrews being there on Kid's Night on Tuesday night. My friend was in the audience and is still in utter awe. Julie Andrews and her daughter were called up to spell during the audience section. Julie's word was- surprise, surprise- supercalifragilisticexpealidocous (I spelled that so wrong.) She asked for a definition and then if they wanted it forwards or backwards.

Was anyone else there, so I can kill them out of jelously after I kill my friend?

You certainly prove your worth to this board. The cast comments were nice but I was really more interested in watching her complete performance and to see it uninterrupted. :( I'd like to know what definition was given and to see her send off by the cast.

But I do love that show! :D

The music actually isn't very good. It's not bad, but the score isn't what's outstanding about it.

That sounds too negative to me. The score is not outstanding but it is good. And it depends on what you look for in a musical tinydancer101. It is a very entertaining show with interesting characters and story. Spelling Bee will probably become a school favorite because of the topic (interesting subject for a musical) and playing one of the spellers should be an actor's delight.

It wasn't meant to sound that way, and I still don't think it does. The score is just not standout, but the sum of the parts is what makes the show.

It's not exactly true that they will give you a pass on this no matter how you spell it. I've seen two people eliminated on this word, both of whom's guesses were obviously wrong. Thus, one's spelling must seem reasonably correct in order to get a pass on this one.
