Post Auditioning for Into the Woods
The audition is in two weeks. It's for an Equity theatre that I've never worked with. In my dreams, I'd be old enough to play the Baker's Wife and have a good rep established with the directors already. But alas, this is not the case. So, I'm thinking my best option would be to aim for something in the Ensemble like Snow White. I'm also on the short side (5'1") and look young for 24, so Little Red could maybe be a possibility.

I need two 16 bar cuts of contrasting traditional musical theatre songs (nothing contemporary). It says we can sing songs from the score, but I don't know how I feel about that.

So far, I've brainstormed "So Many People" from Saturday Night and "I Remember" from Evening Primrose ... both ballads. I have nothing else.

HELP! Por favor. I would really appreciate any suggestions!

This is a tough one. I've never auditioned for a Sondheim show before.

Here are a few good uptempo songs that are also great acting pieces:

- "Matchmaker" from Fiddler on the Roof

- "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story (lyrics by Sondheim)

- "That'll Show Him" from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. This might be the best choice because both the music and lyrics are by Sondheim. Also, if you want to aim for Little Red, this one would show off comedic skills pretty well. You didn't mention your range - this song goes up to either an F5 or a G5 (I recently sang it for a competition).

You could also go with something that's sung by a younger girl in a musical with a similar range to Little Red, like Annie or Matilda.
