Post Bat Boy Audition
I'm auditioning for Bat Boy next week, and I need some input as to what song to do. They want 32 bars from a song from a musical written after 1980. I'm assuming they want it to be in the vain of rock/power ballad. And I'm going to be going for Edgar and/or Rick. These are the songs I have picked so far:

"Breeze off the River" - Full Monty
"You Walk With Me" - Full Monty
"Great Big Stuff" - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
"Love is My Legs" - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
"I'm Alive" - Next to Normal (though all I have is chord progressions for the most part, so that might be out of the question)
"Don't Do Sadness" - Spring Awakening
"All That's Known" - Spring Awakening
"Why God Why" - Miss Saigon
"My Unfortunate Erection" - Spelling Bee
"Boy With Dreams" - Edges
"Part of a Painting" - Edges
"Along the Way" - Edges
"Giants in the Sky" - Into the Woods

So I have narrowed it down to those songs. I just need some help picking one song to do the 32 bars. Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks so much!

Your best bets might be "I'm Alive" or "All That's Known", as far as a song for Edgar might go.

I like your idea of going with The Full Monty but the songs you selected are not power ballads so much as just regular ballads.

How about "I'm a Man" from The Full Monty?

Or take a look at some of the songs from "We Will Rock You" and "Evil Dead: The Musical".
