Post BATB auditions- belle
So i feel like a dork because i put this in the Beauty & the Beast forum & just realized it should probably go here instead. Anyway, I'm auditioning for Belle in Beauty in the Beast on monday (EEK! soon i know!) & would love any input or votes as to what i should sing. I dont have a crazy belt but i have a pretty strong mix. Is that appropriate? I've never really considered belle to be the knock it out of the park belter part, but i'm reading that alot on here. Any thoughts? (I can use a CD so i'm not too worried about the difficulty of the arrangement)

Don't worry about your belting for Belle. Someone could belt out "Home" or "A Change in Me", but I don't believe it would be appropriate. If you listen to the Original Broadway Cast, you can hear that the Belle is definitely an alto belter. But even she mixes and switches when she floats up to the high range. This is one role that audiences simply don't expect belting for-- in fact, it would probably bother their Disney sensibilities. Keep it strong emotionally, but light enough in voice quality.

I picked "Astonishing" because it is similar emotionally, and has a bit of the Disney in it. It will show more range than they need, but that's not a bad thing.

Well if anyones interested, i got mrs. potts. it wasnt quite what i was hoping for & i was a little disappointed in their choice of belle(flat). but i can understand seeing as who they chose as the beast, & i was the only one who could really hit all of the upper & lower notes in beauty & the beast. so oh well you win some you lose some this should be fun :)
