Not for any upcoming audition, but more for future reference...

Is "Home" from Phantom by Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit overdone?

Here it is if it doesn't sound familiar (I know it's a duet, but I have a solo arrangement of it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fsdy2ymfQr0

If you're auditioning for anything, don't sing songs from shows that are currently on Broadway and/or are very, very well known and popular. Don't be afraid to learn a new song for an audition.

I wouldn't say this song is overdone. I've definitely heard it a few times before, but I don't feel like it's a song you hear all the time. I say if you do it well, go for it!

Do not use "Fine, Fine Line" from Avenue Q.

I just accompanied auditions for Hairspray at a local theatre, where they asked for two songs - upbeat and ballad - one of which could be from the show.

Almost EVERY SINGLE GIRL auditioning for Tracy did "Good Morning Baltimore" and "Fine, Fine Line."

Is it appropriate to sing Miss Saigon for the big theatre shows like Les Miserables? No-one's mentioned it and I'm a soprano/belter, so I can do I'd Give My Life For You, Movie In My Mind and I Still Believe quite well, and from what I know of talking to people about it is that's it's well known to people interested in musical theatre but not the general public.

That sounds awesome, SuperSecretBoyband, as Miss Saigon is relatively obscure but still known and loved by many, if that makes sense. Any of these songs would be really good for Les Miserables, if you are going for I Still Believe make sure you can totally rule it as it's definitely one of the most popular songs from Miss Saigon. Who are you auditioning for? Eponine sounds like a shoot-in for I'd Give My Life For You.
