If you're auditioning to get into Interlochen(Summer Music/musical theatre Program in Michigan(?) don't sing a showtune because they won't let you! They seriously won't let you sing anything from Broadway or West End! Which is actually good!

...except that I went there this year and last year, using a total of four different audition songs, and all of them were from a Broadway or West End selection...you'd be hardpressed to find a variety of good songs from a "musical theatre selection" as asked that were never from either.

If you are auditioning for anything don't sing anything from the music book "The Teen's Musical Theatre Collection: Young Women's Edition"

If I have to listen to one more person scream In My Own Little Corner or Part of Your World I'm gonna puke!!!

it actually has some good songs in it for auditions..but I agree about Part of Your World..unless its disney! I have two

If you're auditioning for a non-disney production don't sing anything disney with the exception of *maybe* Beauty and the Beast the songs that aren't in the movie.

and...
if you're auditioning for

anything don't sing a song that isn't in your range

if you're auditioning for grease and you have to sing a song from the show, don't sing it like the people in the movie, esp. Olivia Newton John.

I'm surprised that so many people make this mistake, even newer people. I thought it obvious that if you're going to impress people you might as well sing something that you can sing.

If you are auditioning for anything don't sing On My Own. That has to be the most overdone song aside from All That Jazz.

If you're auditioning for anything don't sing I Could Have Danced All Night, 'Til There was You or anything from any Disney movie EVER (except maybe songs written specifically for the Broadway productions of Lion King and Beauty & the Beast)

If you are auditioning for a part in any serious show with high vocal expectancy dont sing castle on a cloud as it doesnt have enough dynamics to it.

actually a lot of casting directors like for people to sing disney songs, if it's relevant to the show. If you're auditioning for a younger girl/boy a lot of disney songs are good.
