Les Mis question for you guys.

For college auditions I'm using Cosette's portion of "In My Life". Good idea or bad idea?

Look at my list. You'll find another Soprano song.

Thanks for the help everyone :)

I'm currently looking for a song for auditioning for Audrey in LSOH. All the songs that seem appropriate for me to sing them are too belty. I can't really belt. "Somewhere That's Green" suits my voice perfectly, but I don't want to a use a song from the show. Anything similiar out there?

Well, you could look at Stop and See Me from Weird Romance, another Menken show. Ellen Greene actually sang it. So it may be too obvious of a choice, but you probably want to check it out anyway!

It's actually a man's song, but "Wig In A Box" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch might suit an Audrey audition. So might any of the female solos from Bat Boy (especially "A Home For You"), maybe "Touchatouchatouchatouch Me" from Rocky Horror. Or "Two People In Love" or perhaps "Our Story Goes On", both from Baby. "A Fine Fine Line" would also be a good choice, from Avenue Q.

I figured either our arrangements were different or you were a nice little soprano and didn't even know it! The latter would have been cooler, but, you know, mezzos have fun too.

Yeah...Umm, I have a really wide range, supposedly, but I've always been classified as a mezzo. I can hit the high soprano notes, but I figure the vocal teachers know better about what voice I am. My range goes from an E below middle C (the reeeally low E) to the top note in the title song from "Phantom of The Opera". So people have told me that that's a wide range.

That is 3 octaves. Wide indeed.

My_New_Philosophy, are you serious, because I really have no idea. And I know some people would just be sarcastic. It's hard to tell over the Internet. So don't take my question the wrong way. I'm not trying to be smart or anything.

I'm serious. It's wide, but it's not amazing. I also have about 3 octaves, a note lower both ways than you.

I'm trying to come up with a good audition song for Ariel in Footloose. It's hard to find something similar to the style of cheesy 80's pop rock. Is anyone familiar with ABBA's music and Mamma Mia? They sang lots of cheesy pop songs, right?
