Re: Audition songs/tips for Little Red from Into The Woods?
Oh, hi! We're in the same predicament.
I'm auditioning for Little Red in a college production. I'm going between I Know Things Now (we're allowed, and I want to show them I can do it), but I'm also looking at the movie version of A Glamorous Life from A Little Night Music. The problem is there aren't really any other characters in Sondheim that are like Little Red, so that makes it tough. Frederika from A Little Night Music I'd say is about the same age, but she's more refined. I guess you could also do Gypsy? But Sondheim only wrote the words for it, not the music, so it's not going to sound the same. But I guess you could also check out the Baby June songs from there if you want.
My New Philosophy's a good choice, but I have a feeling a lot of people going for Little Red would sing it. What about Schroder? Doesn't it have a similar range? Maybe I Speak Six Languages from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee could work? I'm not sure how overdone it is, but there's a good patter part in there. I can't do it since we just put on Spelling Bee.
And I'm planning on wearing a red top and probably black pants in my audition. I think if you just wear one thing that's red it'll work without being too much.
