Post Need show suggestions please.
Hi. I'm a teacher trying to think of a musical to do at my school.

We are a London-based boys' school with students of ages 12-18 with some girls aged 16-18, so we need a show that can be done with fewer girls than boys. In terms of cast size, we are probably looking at about 35 boys and 10 girls. We'd prefer a show that has more male principals than female, as we have a lot of very talented boys.

The last two shows we did were Oliver! and We Will Rock You.

Although this isn't a necessity, we would prefer a show without woodwind or brass in the band as we don't have any strong musicians in these areas amongst our students. We managed with Oliver! by hiring professionals, but it was quite expensive.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions you have!

Thanks.

Cat

You're going to have a tough time finding a musical that meets all those requirements, but this is what I came up with. None of them are perfect fits, but definitely shows I feel you should look into.

Les Miserables - very guy heavy, unfortunately has difficult orchestrations for a high school to pull off, especially with no woodwind or brass instruments
Beauty and the Beast - guy heavy, though again you may not have the musical resources for the orchestra
Big River - guy heavy, very stringy orchestra
Fiddler on the Roof - guy heavy, string instruments important
Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - guy heavy
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying - guy heavy
West Side Story - a great option if you have the right demographics for the roles and able dancers
Rent - it doesn't have as big a cast as you'd like, but the band would be very doable for you and there are more male leads than female; I also don't know if this would be seen as inappropriate by your administration

I agree with all the suggestions.

Joseph is a GREAT one if you're really guy heavy.

Also maybe "7 Brides for 7 Brothers"

You do have to have the 7 Brides, but you need the 7 brothers and then the suitors, so it's definitely more male heavy.

"Crazy For You" - is guy heavy as well
